I am trying to create a PDT token in my sandbox account. I have followed the instructions, though most refer to an earlier version of the Website Payment Preferences page and mention clicking a save button. I don’t have that version:

The documentation I have found says enable auto return, provide a return url, turn on PDT, click save, go back to the profile and then go back to Website payment preferences and the token will be displayed below the Payment data transfer section.

So, there is no save button (everything seems to work on AJAX), and no matter how many times I’ve tried to go in and out of this screen, the PDT toke is NOT being shown

How do I setup PayPal PDT and get my PayPal PDT Token ID

Below are the instructions on how to enable PayPal PDT in your account.

Note: You need a PayPal business or premier account to use PayPal PDT (upgrading from a personal PayPal account is free).

Step 1) Log into your PayPal account.

Step 2) Go to My Account -> Profile

Step 3) Click on selling tools link.

Step 4) Check the selling online section.

Step 5) Look for «Website Preferences» and click the «Update» link on the far right hand corner of this row.

The following image shows you where to click in your PayPal account to get to the Website Preferences menu:
http://images.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forum-images/instruction/getting-paypal-pdt-token-id.png

Step 6) You are now on the «Website Preferences» menu.

a) Turn on the «Auto Return» for Website Payments
b) Enter a URL in the Return URL field (your thank you page URL)
c) Scroll down to Payment Data Transfer and enable it.
d) Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Save button
e) PayPal will give a success message and show you your PDT ID Token
f) Copy the paypal PDT ID token and use it where you need to specify it.

But it doesn’t seem to work. I noticed during testing that PayPal doesn’t send me to the thank you page I set up. Eventhough I specified it in website preference within PayPal as well as settings within the Affiliate ap.

Hi, are you making the payment using a credit card (without logging into your PayPal account)?

Correct, when I am on the PayPal page, I’m just putting in a credit card. Do I need to login to a PayPal account to make the purchase in order for the referral stuff to work?

The referral stuff will work regardless (when you land on the thank you page).

PayPal just doesn’t do the auto redirect when the payment is made via a credit card. You have to click a link on that page to get redirected to the Thank you page (its how PayPal designed their checkout flow for credit card payment).

So here is the checkout flow for the two different payment methods and how PDT will work:

1) Customer pays via paypal account -> Gets automatically redirected to your thank you page

2) Customer pay via a credit card -> Gets shown a receipt page on Paypal -> The customer clicks a link on this page and gets sent to your thank you page

It worked. Wow I did not know about this caveat. I don’t recall this being told on the WP Affiliate plugins page. So the only way for someone to get a commision is if the buyer clicks on the return to website link on PayPal? No way to automate it to the thank you page?

The plugin will only give commission after a confirmed payment. It can only verify a payment when PayPal gives it the transaction data. Now, with PayPal PDT it works like the way I explained above (that is how PayPal designed it to work).

You also have the option to NOT use the PDT option and we have support for that too. That is where the 2nd integration method comes in which uses IPN (instead of PDT). When you use that option the transaction data is verified using a different method and the plugin doesn’t have to rely on the user landing on the thank you page. Check the details on our documentation here:

I have already a return url specified for another website/product. Is there away around that? I cannot define a second URL, but might it be possible to overwrite this value with the final request that is made when a customer buys from my new site/product?

You don’t need to change the «Return URL» value that you have already specified in your PayPal account for that other website.

Simply specify the «Return URL» value in eStore’s settings and the eStore plugin will work smartly and override it on the transactions that your customers do via eStore only. The rest will stay as it.

I am having trouble finding the PDT token on the new paypal layout. Does this require a business account or are there new instructions for the new PayPal website?

I wanted to accept Paypal on My Zencart Website and this question came up. I am wondering where do I find this information?

PDT Token (Payment Data Transfer)
Enter your PDT Token value here in order to activate transactions immediately after processing (if they pass validation).

1. Log in to your account

2. Click the ‘Profile’ subtab.

3. Click the ‘Website Payment Preferences’ link in the Selling Preferences column.

4. Click the Payment Data Transfer ‘On’ radio button

5. Select Auto-Return to ‘On’

6. Enter a url to be returned to.
7. Click ‘Save’

A confirmation message will appear at the top of the page indicating that you have successfully enabled Payment Data Transfer. Your identity token will appear within that message, as well as below the PDT On/Off radio buttons.

* You must enable Auto Return if you are going to use PDT

* If you already have PDT enabled per the instructions above, to see your token, follow steps 1-3 above. Once you are in the Website Payment Preferences area of your account, you can view the token below the PDT On/Off section.

PDT Identity Token — where do I look on PayPal to find it?

I’ve clicked nearly every link on my PayPal business account and can’t find the PDT IdentityToken needed to set up the PayPal standard setup for NOP Commerce 2.50.
The directions on the admin side for the plugin appear to be incorrect.
1. Log in to your PayPal account.
2. Click the Profile subtab.
3. Click Website Payment Preferences in the Seller Preferences column. (there is no «Website Payment Preferences» that I can find here)
4. Under Auto Return for Website Payments, click the On radio button. (found this)
5. For the Return URL, enter the URL on your site that will receive the transaction ID posted by PayPal after a customer payment (http://www.yourStore.com/Plugins/PaymentPayPalStandard/PDTHandler).
6. Under Payment Data Transfer, click the On radio button.
7. Click Save.
8. Click Website Payment Preferences in the Seller Preferences column. (WHERE?)
9. Scroll down to the Payment Data Transfer section of the page to view your PDT identity token. (WHERE?)

PayPal must have changed this since the instructions were written — no PDT to be found (PayPal’s help explains what it is, but there’s no explanation of WHERE I can find!)

I am trying to integrate Paypal with a websiite CMS plugin. The plugin requires a «PDT token» and also offers the same for a test account.

I have found some instructions here.

However when I go to the Website Payment Preferences in the Seller Preferences there is no » Auto Return for Website Payments» option to click.

Have I missed something?

This had me stumped for a while too until I googled it.

You have to go into My Selling Preferences & Then Website preferences which is the same place you set on the auto return.

Scroll further down that page and you will find the Payment Data Transfer option. You need to set to ON. You will then be presented with your token in a message box just under the main menu bar.

Hope that helps
